a45eea40fc Update gtest to e3f0319d89f4cbf32993de595d984183b1a9fc57
I’m most interested in picking up 1b3eb6ef3462, “Explicitly define copy
constructors used in googletest tests.”

This also reorganizes files and rewrites text to refer to this project
as Google Test and googletest (and Google Mock and googlemock), as it
prefers to be known. Some filenames are left at gtest_* following the
precedent set by gtest itself. For example, #include "gtest/gtest.h" is
still used, so #include "test/gtest_death.h" is retained too.
gtest_all_test OutputFileHelpersTest.GetCurrentExecutableName hard-codes
the expected executable name as gtest_all_test among other options that
do not include googletest_all_test, so test executables retain their
names as well.

a5a1c3b07f Add .style.yapf and reformat according to yapf, using “google” style
% yapf --in-place $(git ls-files **/*.py)
% yapf --version
yapf 0.30.0

Note that this is not using the “chromium” yapf style because Chromium
is moving to PEP-8.
https://groups.google.com/a/chromium.org/d/topic/chromium-dev/RcJgJdkNIdg
yapf 0.30.0 no longer recognizes “chromium” as a style option.
22ef70f3c4
Since this is a mass reformatting, it might as well move things all the
way into the future all at once.

This uses the “google” style, which is a superset of “pep8”.

75efc19dd0 Make most of the tests pass on Android.
- Link with -static-libstdc++ to avoid a runtime dependency on the NDK libc++.
- Relax the regular expression matching the path to ar. If the path is
sufficiently long then gyp will wrap the line, causing the match to fail.
- The crashpad_handler binary needs to be pushed to the device,
otherwise a number of tests fail or hang.

Now the only tests that fail on my device are:

[ FAILED ] DebugRendezvous.Self
[ FAILED ] DebugRendezvous.Child
[ FAILED ] ProcessReaderLinux.SelfModules

60ae9eeadb Implementation of HTTPTransport via raw socket
Partial implementation: Currently only handles http (i.e. no TLS), only
POST, and only certain response types (only when Content-Length is
specified, and not chunked). Used for Linux and Fuchsia lacking anything
better (that's shippable). Removes libcurl HTTPTransport, since it isn't
available in the Chromium sysroot anyway.

This is an intermediate step until BoringSSL is available in the Fuchsia
SDK. Once that's available, it should be "relatively straightfoward" to
make http_transport_socket.cc secure its socket using BoringSSL or
OpenSSL depending on the platform.

3030ae5417 fuchsia: Fix ninja auto-regen after run
After the avoidance of abspath(), automatic regeneration of ninja files
was broken following a test run. The problem is that the
--runtime-deps-list-file argument gets saved into the regeneration rule,
but it's relative to the cwd. The cwd is CRASHPAD_DIR on the first run,
but the binary_dir on regenerations, so either way it doesn't work (this
should probably fixed in either GN or ninja).

We could abspath the path the runtime deps targets file to avoid this.
However, it's a bit cluttery to have that --runtime-deps-list-file in
the regeneration rule anyway, when really it's only required to extract
runtime deps at test-running time. (Also, if you happened to delete only
targets.txt from the out dir, the regeneration would mysteriously fail.)
So since generation only takes tens of milliseconds, the best thing to
do is just remove it from the regeneration rule by re-running gn gen
without the flag after we've extracted the .runtime_deps to prepare for
the run.

1f1657d573 Read either DT_HASH or DT_GNU_HASH to determine the size of DT_SYMTAB
Without the section headers for the symbol table, there's no direct way
to calculate the number of entries in the table.

DT_HASH and DT_GNU_HASH are auxiliary tables that are designed to make
symbol lookup faster. DT_HASH is the original and is theoretically
mandatory. DT_GNU_HASH is the new-and-improved, but is more complex.

In practice, however, an Android build (at least vs. API 16) has only
DT_HASH, and not DT_GNU_HASH, and a Fuchsia build has only DT_GNU_HASH
but not DT_HASH. So, both are tried.

This change does not actually use the data in these tables to improve
the speed of symbol lookup, but instead only uses them to correctly
terminate the linear search.

DT_HASH contains the total number of symbols in the symbol table fairly
directly because there is an entry for each symbol table entry in the
hash table, so the number is the same.

DT_GNU_HASH regrettably does not. Instead, it's necessary to walk the
buckets and chain structure to find the largest entry.

DT_GNU_HASH doesn't appear in any "real" documentation that I'm aware
of, other than the binutils code (at least as far as I know). Some
more-and-less-useful references:

c9b41a4d15 fuchsia: Fix removal of /tmp dir on test run, and location of .so files
1. .so files should (I believe) be in /pkg/lib according to
https://fuchsia.googlesource.com/docs/+/master/namespaces.md#typical-directory-structure
(None of the tests that load .so actually work currently, so it doesn't
make anything better or worse to fix this.)

2. The test directory structure looks like:
- /tmp/<guid>/pkg/...
- /tmp/<guid>/tmp/...

Previously /tmp/<guid>/pkg/ and /tmp/<guid>/tmp/ were being removed, but
/tmp/<guid>/ wasn't so there was a bunch of empty directory garbage
being left in /tmp. Clean up from the root instead.

13d0defbfb android, win: Enable colored test output when available
Following the discussion at https://crrev.com/c/818125/3//COMMIT_MSG#17,
this sets GTEST_COLOR=yes when running tests on an Android device via
“adb” being driven from a Windows host. This is only done when standard
output is attached to a console and when
ENABLE_VIRTUAL_TERMINAL_PROCESSING is supported (it is on Windows 10).
As usual, colored output can be suppressed by setting GTEST_COLOR=no.

This is only partially tested. Instead of running on-device tests via
adb, I substituted:
  print('\x1b[0;31mred\x1b[32mgreen\x1b[34mblue\x1b[0m')

0cc63d4a45 android: Make run_tests.py work on Android versions before 7.0 (N)
I took yesterday’s work and tried using it to run tests on a Nexus 4
running 5.1.1 (L), and absolutely nothing worked. The highlights:

 - There’s no /system/bin/mktemp.
 - There’s no /system/bin/env.
 - “adb shell” doesn’t know what the command’s exit status was.

While I’m in here, I’ll also make colored gtest output work, although it
won’t work on the normal Windows console which doesn’t understand ANSI
color codes. (It might work in Cygwin?)

Plus some bonus bloopers:
 - I was trying to catch an exception that isn’t even defined in Python
   2!
 - The part of the script that tells you what test it’s about to run had
fallen into a conditional block, preventing it from being shown
   except when running end_to_end_test.py.

ef3ce94fbf Python 3 support for Python scripts (without compromising Python 2)
It’s better to be prepared for the future than…to not be.

This is mostly the result of running 2to3 on all .py files, with some
small shims to maintain compatibility with Python 2.
http_transport_test_server.py was slightly more involved, requiring many
objects to change from “str” to “bytes”.

The #! lines and invokers still haven’t changed, so these scripts will
still normally be interpreted by Python 2.

5e9ed4cb9f win: Dynamically disable WoW64 tests absent explicit 32-bit build output
Rather than having the 64-bit build assume that it lives in
out\{Debug,Release}_x64 and that it can find 32-bit build output in
out\{Debug,Release}, require the location of 32-bit build output to be
provided explicitly via the CRASHPAD_TEST_32_BIT_OUTPUT environment
variable. If this variable is not set, 64-bit tests that require 32-bit
test build output will dynamically disable themselves at runtime.

In order for this to work, a new DISABLED_TEST() macro is added to
support dynamically disabled tests. gtest does not have its own
first-class support for this
(https://groups.google.com/d/topic/googletestframework/Nwh3u7YFuN4,
https://github.com/google/googletest/issues/490) so this local solution
is used instead.

For tests via Crashpad’s own build\run_tests.py, which is how Crashpad’s
own buildbots and trybots invoke tests, CRASHPAD_TEST_32_BIT_OUTPUT is
set to a locaton compatible with the paths expected for the GYP-based
build. No test coverage is lost on Crashpad’s own buildbots and trybots.

For Crashpad tests in Chromium’s buildbots and trybots, this environment
variable will not be set, causing these tests to be dynamically
disabled.

39f13a77a4 Make run_tests.py work with paths instead of configuration names
This is co-dependent with
https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/457736.

I’ve been trying to share a source tree between different platforms,
using gyp_crashpad.py --generator-output to put the build output in the
right place. On Windows, it winds up in
out\win\out\{Debug,Release}{,_x64}. This makes it tricky to use
run_tests.py, which expects to find build output right in the “out”
directory. It’s not impossible to use, because you can tell it
“win\out\Debug_x64”, but it’s really awkward to use that path when we
all know that it’s not relative to anything that makes sense, like the
current directory.

This simplifies run_tests.py to work directly with the
configuration-specific output directory. For most users, this means
including “out/” or “out\” when running the script.

d7ee79cb36 Fix path to binary dir in cdb test
Oops, was passing the out dir (...\crashpad\out), not the binary dir
(...\crashpad\out\Debug). Didn't notice because I was running the
script directly, rather than via run_tests.py. :/

fd40ebbc72 win: stub of end-to-end test
I'd like to write some `expect(1)`-style tests (possibly using
http://pexpect.readthedocs.org/en/stable/) to verify that various windbg
commands that I'm adding support for do actually work when consuming
minidumps in real life.

For the moment, this is just the beginnings of a stub as I don't know if
bots even have windbg/cdb installed.

bf556829d9 win: support x64 reading x86 (wow64)
Removes the bitness-specific targets in favour of pulling binaries from
the other build directory. This is to avoid the added complexity of
duplicating all the targets for the x86 in x64 build.

Overall, mostly templatizing more functions to support the
wow64-flavoured structures. The only additional functionality required
is reading the x86 TEB that's chained from the x64 TEB when running
as WOW64.

The crashing child test was switched to a manual CreateProcess because
it needs to launch a binary other than itself.

6978bf7646 win: Crash handler server
This replaces the registration server, and adds dispatch to a delegate
on crash requests.

(As you are already aware) we went around in circles on trying to come
up with a slightly-too-fancy threading design. All of them seemed to
have problems when it comes to out of order events, and orderly
shutdown, so I've gone back to something not-too-fancy.

Two named pipe instances (that clients connect to) are created. These
are used only for registration (which should take <1ms), so 2 should be
sufficient to avoid any waits. When a client registers, we duplicate
an event to it, which is used to signal when it wants a dump taken.

The server registers threadpool waits on that event, and also on the
process handle (which will be signalled when the client process exits).
These requests (in particular the taking of the dump) are serviced
on the threadpool, which avoids us needing to manage those threads,
but still allows parallelism in taking dumps. On process termination,
we use an IO Completion Port to post a message back to the main thread
to request cleanup. This complexity is necessary so that we can
unregister the threadpool waits without being on the threadpool, which
we need to do synchronously so that we can be sure that no further
callbacks will execute (and expect to have the client data around
still).

In a followup, I will readd support for DumpWithoutCrashing -- I don't
think it will be too difficult now that we have an orderly way to
clean up client records in the server.

809ea8158d test: Move util/test to its own top-level directory, test.
After 9e79ea1da719, it no longer makes sense for crashpad_util_test_lib
to “hide” in util/util_test.gyp. All of util/test is moved to its own
top-level directory, test, which all other test code is allowed to
depend on. test, too, is allowed to depend on all other non-test code.

In a future change, when crashpad_util_test_lib gains a dependency on
crashpad_client, it won’t look so weird for something in util (even
though it’s in util/test) to depend on something in client, because the
thing that needs to depend on client will live in test, not util.

32a9d410ca Locate test data more robustly.
Test code that requires test data should call Paths::TestDataRoot() to
obtain the test data root. This will use the CRASHPAD_TEST_DATA_ROOT
environment variable if set. Otherwise, it will look for test data at
known locations relative to the executable path. If the test data is not
found in any of these locations, it falls back to using the working
directory, the same as the current behavior.

b256df0534 Set target_name on many targets to use a crashpad_ prefix.
In Chromium, many targets are built, sharing a single output directory.
Collisions are likely. When integrating Crashpad into Chromium, the
ui/snapshot library and Crashpad’s snapshot library were found to
conflict.

This change gives most Crashpad targets a “crashpad_” prefix to avoid
conflicts. All library and test targets are given a target_name with
this prefix. Existing tools are not likely to conflict with anything
else and are not given a prefix.
